llinois State University is committed to protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects participating in research investigations under the authority of the university. All research involving human subjects is to be conducted in accordance with relevant federal regulations.
Federal regulation, Title 45, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 46, requires that all institutions receiving federal funds, which conduct research using living humans as subjects, establish and operate an Institutional Review Board (IRB). The purpose of the IRB is to ensure the protection of these human subjects. The IRB is guided by the ethical principles embodied in The Belmont Report and by additional local standards and expectations. The Illinois State University IRB has an approved Federalwise Assurance (FWA00000112) on file with the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). Our IRB registration number is IORG0000486.
Investigators who plan to use human subjects in research are responsible for obtaining written approval from the IRB prior to conducting research involving human subjects, taking whatever steps are deemed necessary to protect subjects, and abiding by reporting requirements of the IRB.
